While sitting at the table eating lunch today, I was channel surfing and came across James Lipton interviewing Queen Latifah on Inside the Actors Studio. Up until this point I hadn’t really spent a lot of time thinking about her, with the possible exception of her very noteworthy performance as Mama in the movie, Chicago. But today, I really saw her.
Queen Latifah is beautiful. What makes her that way is her all encompassing personal confidence. She is sure of herself without being arrogant. She is compelling without the rhetoric that often accompanies charismatic people. She is Dana Owens, a woman who is smart enough to know that if you want to go beyond your immediate existence you have to have the courage to step out of it. And she has.
